Starcraft 2 Terran Counters
Starcraft 2 Counters List --> Starcraft 2 Terran Counters
The relationship of the Terran race with unit counters
varies greatly depending upon the race match-up.
Against Protoss players, it is typically up to the Terran player to react to the Protoss's unit choices. For
example, all else being equal, if you are a Terran player using bio against a Protoss player, and the Protoss
player decides to get out a lot of Archons and you fail to get out Ghosts for EMP, the Protoss player will
typically win the match no matter what you do. It is up to you as the Terran player to notice High Templar tech and
build Ghosts in response.
Terrans have much more control against Zerg players. A Terran can use practically any combination of Marines,
Marauders, Medivacs, Widow Mines, Thors, Siege Tanks and do well against any Zerg force. It is up to the Zerg to
produce units or army combinations like Brood Lords or Ultralisks that are effective against the Terran's forces.
Failure of the Zerg to react to a balanced Terran army will result in a win for the Terran.
This difference is significant because it greatly affects the playstyle of the game. Against a Protoss player in
the late game, the Protoss army composition must be carefully monitored. It is up to the Terran to produce the
appropriate amount of Ghosts or Vikings, as once Ghosts take out the High Templar or Archons and Vikings take out
the Colossi or Protoss air units, Ghosts and Vikings do not contribute much to the battle. A Protoss does not have
this problem: there is no such thing as too many Colossi (unless the Terran went entirely for air) or too many High
Templar (they can just be converted to Archons after storming).
Against a Zerg though, it is hard to overproduce Marines, Medivacs, or Siege Tanks. While you might need to add
in Marauders to stop Ultralisks or Vikings to stop Brood Lords, it is much harder to overproduce any of these units
versus a Zerg player.
Terran Counter Charts - Now Updated for Heart of the Swarm!
The table below does not list what Terran units are strong against. Please see the second table
for that information. The list below will tell you what to build when fighting against Terran players.
For example, in the "Marine" column, units under each race heading tell you what to build in order to defeat
Marines. In the "Weak Against the Protoss's" column next to "Marine", you will find the Sentry and Colossus. Both
these units do very well versus Marines.
Note: All counters are relative and fluid. For example, a single Colossus will die easily to 12 Zerglings if
caught in the open field. However if your Colossi have force field support and Zealots to tank for them, then
Colossi can quickly melt away Zerglings. This is just one of many examples, so take the charts with a grain of
salt.
As another example, early in the game, a single Stalker will man-handle 2 Marines. Late in the game, post
combat-shields and Stimpack, Marines will dominate a Stalker. Upgrades can change list as well.

In this second table, you will find what each Terran unit is strong against. This is for Terran
players to use. You should see what unit your enemy is building (look in the columns sorted by race) and then build
whatever Terran unit is strong against that.
For example, on the "Marauder" line, the Marauder is listed as countering the Roach. If your enemy is Zerg and
builds Roaches, you should build Marauders. This chart details Terran Unit Strengths.

With these two tables detailing Starcraft 2 Terran counters, you should be in a good place both to win while
playing Terran and when playing against Terran players in Starcraft 2.
If you are really struggling versus Terran players. I would recommend printing out these charts and placing them
somewhere near your computer. You could then reference them whenever you get beat by a particular unit so you will
know what to build for next time.
Learning all of the Starcraft 2 Terran counters can take some time, so be patient. With practice, this will all
come naturally and you will know exactly what you need to build in order to win games.
